Having spent her entire adult life as a music educator, Tania is passionate about music! Raised in a family that valued music, Tania started formal piano lessons at the age of 6 years old. Through her formative years, Tania studied with some of Australia's most respected educators and performers including Dr Margaret Brandman, Albert Landa and Alison Ascoli. She began her teaching career in 1992 at the Fairfield School of Music which she joint owned and operated for over 10 years. Tania opened her own private teaching practice, The Piano Academy in 2000 followed by her early childhood Kindermusik studio, Busy Bees Music in 2007. Tania's performance experience includes AMEB examination and HSC accompanying, work as a church, liturgical and wedding organist and accompanying work with The Opera and Oratoria Company of Australia (TOOTCA) in it's early years, run by the esteem entertainer William Amer.
Tania has completed tertiary studies in piano pedagogy, studio teaching, performance, musical theory, child development, early childhood music and Kindermusik as well as additional studies in the Kodaly Concept, Dalcroze Eurythmics, the Montessori Method, interpersonal neurobiology, sensory integration and numerous parenting workshops. With a developing interest in how music can be used as therapy for neurologic conditions, Tania has most recently completed training with The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy.
As well as in private practice, Tania has taught music in child care centres, primary and secondary schools. In addition to her work with Kindermusik and Busy Bees Music, Tania has worked with Families NSW (a NSW Government initiative) presenting music classes to parents and children of non-English speaking backgrounds. Up until 2017 she was a private piano teacher at Thomas Hassall Anglican College. Her varied teaching roles through her career have seen Tania work with children with learning and behavioural challenges including those with sensory processing challenges and those on the autism spectrum. Having two school aged children of her own and coupled with her work with children, Tania has seen how music exposure can be a strong catalyst for the development of all learning areas as well as music. Tania's whole-brain teaching approach nurtures the development of the whole child, making lessons energetic, fun, enjoyable and engaging. Many of Tania's private piano students have completed AMEB examinations with excellent results and with a teaching career spanning 24 years, many of her former students are now university graduates and working in the various fields of music.
